Many services offer web design, however my focus is to build capacity as well as building a site. My approach is to offer a pathway for prospective site owners to learn the skills needed to manage and grow their own site, build pages and interactive elements. Vibe coding has become a key part of the development cycle for websites and apps. There has been a proliferation of AI supported tools that can help make an app for your own purpose. I have dedicated a considerable amount of time to learning this approach and then how it moves from concept into real code. This approach is a way of trialing an idea and building a prototype rapidly. If you are looking to test an idea this is definitely a good direction to take. It wont take the code out of coding but it may mean you can put together a winning concept to attract funding and get your idea off the ground. Where to start... What do I need?
Linux Mint is an excellent starting point. I used it a lot when I first started an have watched it develop into a very stable Linux distro which offers excellent development space, that is very stable and secure straight out of the box, I can source you suitable hardware to build a system on, refurbish and repurpose a device that has been unused for a while or give you guidance to DIY. I speciallise in using Apple hardware as a base as its build quality is great and has a potential useful lifespan well beyond the time span in which apple provides support. I can also refurbish old windows PCs. Even systems that are over 10 years old with 4GIG of RAM can with the right open source approach be made into a useful device. Open source computer systems can be customised in ways that conventional windows and even mac systems can't. A huge range of software is available courtesy of worldwide community of developers and include applications for design, coding, digital art, sound production , cybersecurity all the bay through to basic productivity and office suites.
I can help you build your own custom system for your own needs using your own hardware or help you source suitable legacy hardware to start your build and set you in the direction of computing freedom away from big tech. I specialise in extending the life of Apple hardware beyond support from its maker. Like website design my aim is to empower and support people to find their own technological solutions.
Linux can be anything you want it to be. Linux itself is the kernel or core which a system can be built around. Most if not all modern linux distributions all for a large amount of customisation to their user interface. Whilst Linux is used by many professionals for coding or on secure servers it is also suitable for everyday use. There are multitudes of different linux distributions which like flavours can be chosen to suit your needs and uses.

If you have an old windows or Mac Laptop or desktop I can help you re-purpose it, and give it a longer working life. Older machines can run Linux operating systems often very well, sometimes faster than they were new. Systems can be customised fit a wide range of uses.

E-Waste
E-Waste remains a very real consequence of technological advance and the product of planned system obsolescence. When computers die they don't compost... as useful as they are to our daily lives in death they do not serve our environment well. Linux in many of its forms can transform a slow or sluggish windows machine, or unsupported, obsolete Mac into a very functional and fast computing system. Linux compared to Windows 11 or Mac OS can run with much less RAM giving more memory space and better performance from apps installed on the machine. There are a huge range of Linux flavours out there that range from very user friendly and secure systems for everyday use to highly specialised systems . This reflects a diverse community of users and developers globally.On top of that that each operating system has its own range of customisation possible via its desktop environment/ UI. Simply put you can create a system that either parallels existing windows or mac environments or be tightly configured to your own needs and workflow.
Add to that the huge range of free open source software, and the fact you can, if you want ,set in place a healthy independence from big tech without losing access to modern software tools. In so much of our day to day computing our apps and services live in the cloud, all that many of us need is a capable secure web browser, a decent internet connection and a secure device of any system architecture to rdo our work or our home and hobby uses, Just because a user choses an open source and free operating system does not mean they need to surrender the functionality needed to use MS Office or access your icloud photos.
